Position overview

We are seeking applications for a permanent full-time Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA), holding a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing or higher qualification and want to work in a stimulating and busy team environment.

Massey Vets is New Zealand’s leading veterinary hospital, and only training centre for new veterinarians. The hospital is open 24/7, 365 days for the treatment of sick pets in the Palmerston North region and from around the country.

As a VCA, you will be an integral part of the veterinary anaesthesia team and offer assistance to veterinary nurses, veterinarians and undergraduate students. As part of the anaesthesia team, you will be primarily responsible for the overall maintenance and stocking of the anaesthetic room, teaching theatres, equine theatre and all ancillary anaesthesia rooms. In addition to a servicing role, the VCA will have some direct patient care responsibilities, which will primarily involve the preparation of patients for anaesthesia and recovery of patients after anaesthesia.

Hours of work will be discussed at interview and some flexibility to work extended hours is required, to ensure service continuity. To be successful in appointment to this role, you need to be enthusiastic, motivated, organised, show initiative, have basic IT skills, possess a “can do” attitude, and have excellent communication skills.
